The Charlestown High School Athletic Department, along with the Board of Trustees of the Greater Clark County School Corporation, are pleased and honored to announce the hiring of a new Charlestown Pirate Football Head Coach.

Coach Darin Ward, originally from Booneville, Indiana, has taken the wheel of the Pirate Nation Football program with excitement and anticipation of heading up one of the most tradition-rich high school football programs in southern Indiana.

Coach Ward attended and lettered in football three seasons at Indiana University before completing his Masters at Oakland City University. Coach Ward has spent a season as an Assistant Football Coach at the University of Rhode Island, three seasons as an the Football Defensive Coordinator at Jasper (IN) High School, two seasons as the Crawford County (IN) High School Head Football Coach, and most recently eight seasons as the Corydon Central High School Head Football Coach. Coach Ward has an overall record of 60 wins and 27 losses as a varsity Head Football Coach, including a IHSAA Class 3A Sectional and Regional Championship in 2011.

Coach Ward has been selected a Region 10 North-South All-Star Coach twice, Mid-Southern Conference Coach of the Year twice, and the Class 3A Griddy Coach of the Year in 2011.

“Charlestown has always been known for being a hard-working, tough, tradition based community, and that’s what draws me here to be the head football coach,” explained Coach Ward. “Charlestown’s exciting for me because it’s an opportunity to work with really good young men that will work hard and take a lot of pride in the tradition and the community.”

Charlestown Pirate Pride Sports Broadcasting welcomes Coach Darin Ward to the helm, and embraces the prospects of the Pirate Football tradition continuing in Pirate Nation.
