The search for a man wanted for questioning in an early morning shooting on May 27 near Crothersville is continuing, according to the latest news release from the Versailles post of the Indiana State Police.

On Friday, May 30, an ISP bulletin announced that state police are wanting to talk to Jonathan Lee “Chisel” Chilton, 28. Chilton has been known to reside in Seymour and Scottsburg and in the Crothersville area.

Chilton was described as a white male about 6-0 in height and weighing about 155 lbs. He has a medium build with brown hair and eyes and has been known to wear a mustaches and beard. The shooting occurred around 12:30 a.m. that Tuesday. A man, identified as Jay McGinnis, 35, Austin, called 9-1-1 and said the rear window of his 2006 Nissan Altima had been shot out. McGinnis received a superficial wound in the incident, which occurred on Bard Road near Crothersville.

Investigators with the ISP post have been working on the case since then. They did not release the suspect’s name, only that they wished to speak to Chilton, who, as of Monday afternoon, June 2, had still not been located. The suspect in the shooting is not considered dangerous, it was noted. Anyone with information about Chilton’s whereabouts is asked to contact the law enforcement agency near them or call the ISP at 1-800-566-6704 if located in Indiana or 1-812-689-500 if outside the state.
