Beck’s Mill will be buzzing with activities Saturday, May 10, as it hosts its annual May Day celebration.

The Washington County Artisans Farmers Market will open in the parking lot at 10 a.m. and will include such demonstrations as blacksmithing, cornhusk doll making and Bobby Myers putting a German twist on his grill specials.

The mill opens at 11 a.m. with the flag raising, followed by a traditional German May Pole dance with local musicians providing the entertainment.

Native American crafts for children and a local student art show with a nature theme are planned. A teenage “Flash Dance” is also in the works.

Demonstrations at the mill will include milling, pottery, spinning, weaving and tours of Tommy Green’s mock distillery. which is tucked in the Cook’s Woods. Tommy will be serving sassafras tea.

Adult admission is $5. Children 16 and under are admitted free with a a paid adult admission.

Beck’s Mill is located five miles south of Salem on Beck’s Mull Road.
