Area motorists were warned this week by the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) that they will not be allowed to use a section of State Road 3 starting Tuesday, May 6.

A long-awaited bridge replacement project will keep the section of S.R. 3 that is just south of State Road 56 East until October, according to an INDOT news release.

S.R. 3 forms part of a T intersection with S.R. 56 east of Scottsburg. Barricades barring all but local traffic north of the bridges scheduled for replacement will be placed at that intersection. Additional barricades will protect the project area from vehicles to its south. Official detours route through traffic around the closure via State Road 356, State Road 203 and S.R. 56.

The twin bridges serve Hog Creek and Stucker Ditch. They are approximately 2,000 feet apart.

Each will be replaced by 122-foot single-span concrete bulb-T beam structures. Both are designed to accommodate two 12-foot lanes with partially paved/rocked shoulders. Gohmann Construction is the state contractor. The closure will be in place for approximately 150 days.
