|FC presents Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice|
Student actors bring a classic to the stage with help from guest director and FCHS alumnus, Amy Harpenau.
Jane Austen’s classic novel comes to life on the Floyd Central stage for one weekend only! Enjoy the romance, humor, and wit of Austen in this unique adaptation by one of Louisville’s favorite playwrights: Jon Jory. During his 32-year tenure as Producing Director at Actors Theatre of Louisville, Jory directed over 125 plays and created the Humana Festival of New American Plays. In his adaptation of PRIDE AND PREJUDICE, Jory preserves the articulate and witty language of Austen while allowing the story to flow seamlessly in a swift and whimsical fashion that truly invites the audience into the world of the characters.
Floyd Central’s production is being staged in their intimate Studio One theatre. The show contains a cast of over 30 students from varying levels of their Advanced Acting courses, meaning audiences are sure to see some of Floyd Central’s most experienced student actors. Among the cast are junior Allyson Nicole Jones (Elizabeth), senior Collin Jackson (Mr. Darcy), junior Savannah Hatton (Mrs. Bennet), senior Clay Gulley (Mr. Bennet), senior Jade Dailey (Jane), and senior John Renfrow (Mr. Bingley).
The cast of PRIDE AND PREJUDICE has had the unique opportunity of working with guest director and Floyd Central alumnus, Amy Harpenau, on this particular play. Harpenau, a 2007 graduate of Floyd Central, went on to earn a BFA in Musical Theatre from Ball State University and has since gone on to become an active performer and teacher. Having worked with numerous theatre companies throughout the midwest, Amy brings her professional experience and contagious enthusiasm to the students at Floyd Central. Robbie Steiner, Floyd Central’s Director of Theatre Arts, is the scenic designer for the show, which will also feature lighting design by junior Madeleine Kemp.
Recommended for those who have never read a Jane Austen novel as well as for those who have read her works countless times, Floyd Central’s production of PRIDE AND PREJUDICE will be presented April 25-27.
