The four-day trial of former Washington County Commissioner Michael Goering ended last Thursday with the jury reaching a guilty verdict.
Goering was convicted of five counts of sexual misconduct with a minor and one count of attempted sexual misconduct with minor, all are Class B felonies.
Sentencing is scheduled for May, 2, in the Washington Circuit Court.
Goering’s local ties led to a special prosecutor Sonia Leerkamp of Deer County and a special judge Harrison Circuit Court’s John Evans.
Goering was arrested around this time in 2013 and was initially charged with five counts of misconduct with a minor and a sixth charge of attempted sexual misconduct with a minor.
Goering’s defense was that he didn’t know the alleged victim was underage.
