Funeral service conducted for Scottsburg businesswoman Kim Mitchell PDF Print E-mail

Kimberly Sue “Kim” Mitchell, co-owner of Mitchell Carpet Gallery in downtown Scottsburg, died on Thursday, January 23.

Kim, 46, of Scottsburg, was a familiar face to all who visited the store on East McClain Avenue. She operated the business with husband Ed for many years, cheerfully helping customers coordinate their selections using colors and styles. With friends and relatives, she also organized several motorcycle events to raise money for cancer awareness. The family also participated in the Scottsburg Main Street downtown event during this past Halloween, hosting a display of birds of prey brought to the store by staff of the Hardy Lake State Recreational Area.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Ancil “Tuck” and Margret Smith and Milton and Mary Hall; her mother, Joyce Marie Hall Whittington; and a brother, Ray Lee Smith.

Survivors include her husband, Ed; two sons, Kodi Shane Mitchell and Justin Edward Mitchell and his wife Mary, all of Scottsburg; her parents, Keith and Brenda S. Smith of Nabb; four sisters, Sheila Colwell and Pam Smith, both of Scottsburg, Michelle Mann and husband Ron of Underwood and Carri Smith of Nabb; a stepbrother, Jack Smith of Scottsburg; two stepsisters, Sheila Smith and Kendra Smith, both of Scottsburg; and two grandchildren, Jordynn Mitchell and Kinley Mitchell.

The funeral was conducted on Monday, January 27, at the Stewart and Hoagland Funeral Home in Scottsburg. The Rev. Rodney Sweeney officiated.

Burial was in Mt. Zion Cemetery in Paynesville.
