The Scottsburg Warriors travel to Charlestown to participate in the Warriors and Warriorettes double header against the Pirates and Lady Pirates.

The starting lineup for the Warriors consisted of Cameron Schmidt, Brandon Boswell, Christian Evans, Braxton Soloe and Christian Barrett.

This was Soloe’’s first start in his high school basketball career.

The Pirates scored the first five points of the game with a jumper and a three. The Warriors Evans answered back with a three. The Warriors started the game in a 2-3 zone which added pressure towards Charlestown’s offense. The lead flipped back and forth with the Warrior ending the quarter in the lead. Both teams played fairly even in the quarter and the score at the end of the quarter was 16-15, Scottsburg lead.

The Warriors quickly jumped to an 8 point lead in the second quarter that quickly decreased to a 4 point lead before going back to an 8 point lead. The Warriors looked good for most of the half led behind Schmidt’’s 13 points. Schmidt was not the only contributor for the Warriors with Helton, Hardin and Barrett also contributing nicely helping the Warriors secure a 39-25 lead at halftime.

Scottsburg’s Barrett got the second half started for the Warriors taking a charge and making layup. The Warriors played a man to man defense while the Pirates transitioned into a 2-3 zone, hoping to shut down the Warriors. The Warriors were able to push their lead by 16 points to make the score 41-25. Towards the end of the quarter, the Pirates cut the Warriors lead in half trailing by 8 with the score 43-35 with under a minute to go in the quarter. The Pirates scored one more basket and the Warriors ended the quarter on a buzzer beater three point basket by Evans making the score 47-37.

The fourth quarter began with Charlestown knocking three points off of Scottsburg’s deficit giving the Warriors only a 7 point lead. The Warriors defense was starting to let up since they had transitioned from a 2-3 zone defense to a man to man defense. The Pirates transitioned from a 2-3 zone defense to a 1-3-1 defense. Changing defenses for Charlestown proved to not make a difference in the game as the Warriors once again added to their lead and held on to their lead for the rest of the game and picked up their third win of the season, avoiding a three game losing streak.

The final score was 65 - 50, Charlestown win.
