Two motorists were injured in one-vehicle accidents recently in which ice on roadways were contributing factors, according to reports by the Sheriff’s Department.

On Friday, January 3, a woman driving a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee east on Blocher Road hit a patch of ice and slid into a utility pole around 1 p.m. Chief Deputy Don Campbell was dispatched to the wreck, located about 1,500 feet east of State Road 203.

There, he talked with the driver, Vicki A. Brown, 18. Scottsburg. She suffered facial contusions and bruising. Scott County EMS technicians assisted her at the scene.

Property damage was estimated at up to $5,000.

At 8:20 a.m. on Saturday, January 4, Deputy Shawn Mayer was dispatched to a wreck 600 feet east of Prewitt Lane on Lovers Lane Road.

He found the driver, Isaac R. Hunefeld, 17, Scottsburg, with the wrecked 1997 Jeep Cherokee. The teenager told the officer that he had been traveling west on Lovers Lane Rd. As he crossed a small bridge, he said the Jeep began sliding on ice. The Jeep skidded off the road into a ditch and struck several trees.

Hunefeld experienced neck pain after the mishap and was assisted by Scott County EMS. The Jeep was towed from the scene. Deputy Mayer estimated damage at up to $10,000.

He was assisted at the scene by Indiana State Trooper Tracy Spencer.
