Warriorettes defeat Lady Cougars of North Harrison 72-47 PDF Print E-mail

The Warriorettes were ready to defend their home turf against the North Harrison Lady Cougars. Coming into this game, both teams were definitely going to look towards their one of their more stronger assets, which is rebounding.


The lineup for the Warriorettes was Kelsey Smith, Ashley Elliot, Sam Beverly, Jill Romero and Cabriana Collins. Usual starter Cara Bulington was out for the game with an injury.

To start the game off, the Warriorettes won tip-off and score the games first four baskets of the game to jump out to an 8-0 lead. within the first two minutes of the game. The Warriorettes played some great defenses by causing the Lady Cougars 12 turnovers in just the first quarter. Only two minutes later, the Warriorettes would increase their lead to 15 making the score 18-3. Turnovers became a big issue that the Lady Cougar’s couldn’t fix. There were some very questionable decisions the Lady Cougars made which worked in the Warriorettes favor by giving them 10 steals in just the first quarter. The end of the quarter showed a score of 18-5 with the Warriorettes on top.

The Warriorettes started the second quarter on an 11-0 run to make the score 29-7. The Lady Cougars were really struggling to find their shot. Later on through the quarter, the Warriorettes made some questionable decisions that the Lady Cougars took advantage of. The Lady Cougars were able to cut their 22 point deficit down to an 11 point deficit by halftime, making the score 34-23 still in the Warriorettes favor.

Kelsey Smith got the second half started with some free throws, after being fouled, for the Warriorettes while the Lady Cougars Cammie Jones made a jumper. The Lady Cougars tried to get a comeback started but the Warriorettes would quickly change that by increasing their from 36-29 to 41-29. The Lady Cougars still did not give up though.

The Warriorettes just kept finding a way to stay on top. They kept the lead by the end of the quarter with the score being 45-35.

The Warriorettes took care of business in the fourth quarter by getting rid of any chances of a win for the Lady Cougars by outscoring them 27-12 to win the game 72-47 making their record 3-1 for the season.

Leading scorers for Scottsburg were Ashley Elliott - 26 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals; Kelsey Smith - 20 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists and 5 steals; Sam Beverly - 12 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals.
