Warriorettes Win Season Opener Over Jennings County Lady Panthers, 82-47 PDF Print E-mail

The Scottsburg Warriorettes kicked off their season by facing the Jennings Co. Lady Panthers. The starting lineup for the Warriorettes consisted of five seniors: Kelsey Smith, Jill Romero, Cara Bulington, Sam Beverly and Ashley Elliott.


Last year’s meeting between the two teams showed the Warriorettes blaze right by the Lady Panthers for an easy win with the score being 80-51.

The first quarter of the game saw the Warriorettes gather up three turnovers in the first two minutes of the game. Besides this, the Warriorettes would jump out to a nine point lead though the first four minutes of the quarter.

The Warriorettes displayed a good show of defense in the quarter but, they were really needing to work on not turning the ball over with seven turnovers in the first quarter. The Lady Panthers were not doing so hot either when it came to turnovers with eleven. Besides the turnovers, the Warriorettes found a way to be on top at the end of the first quarter with a 26-12 lead.

The first basket of the second quarter came from the Warriorettes Ashley Elliot with a free throw. First basket of the second quarter for the Lady Panthers came from a free throw from the Lady Panther’s Emily Ertel.

This made the score 29-13 in the Warriorette’s favor. The second quarter showed a nice amount of points scored for Scottsburg who added 17 points to along with the 26 points that was score in the first quarter. The Lady Panthers would see a decrease in scoring with 12 points in the first quarter compared to only five in the second quarter. The second half would come to an end with Scottsburg ahead of Jennings Co. 43-17.

There would not be much of a difference in the second half compared to the first half. The Warriorettes still displayed great teamwork, while the Lady Panthers just could not get anything going for them throughout the whole game. The end of the third quarter would show the Warriorettes still on top with the score 60-34. The Lady Panthers were throwing up shots hoping they would go in connecting on only 25.5 percent of their shots for the whole game while the Warriorettes connected on 50 percent of their shots for the game. The Warriorettes would come out on top with the score 82-47 and win their first game of the season.

Scottsburg leading scorer was Ashley Elliott - 24 points, 12 rebounds and 7 assists.
