A Rented Christmas by J. Lillian Vandervere is scheduled to open November 29 at Hayswood Theatre on Capital Avenue in Corydon, Indiana. John Dale, a middle-aged bachelor and prominent businessman, has a challenging job for Anne Weston, proprietor of the local rent shop. He wants to rent a Christmas - not just a Christmas with a tree and carols, but complete with a a wife, family and all of the happiness for which he has been secretly longing. Weston hires a group of actors to play John’s “family” but suddenly must “borrow” children from an orphanage when the actors come down with the measles.
Medleys of popular Christmas carols are interwoven with the story to add to the holiday spirit.
The play is based on the short story by J. Lillian Vandervere of how John Dales’ rented Christmas turns into a new life for all concerned, making this a warm story of the holiday season. Directed by Russell Spencer.
The play runs November 29 - December 15 on Fridays & Saturdays at 8:00 and Sundays at 2:00.
Gift certificates will also be available for purchase at the theater in the half hour before the play and during intermission. Give the gift of live theater to your friends and family for the holidays!
