The Pirates of Charlestown traveled to Brownstown Central last Friday night to defend their 2012 Sectional Championship. Charlestown was also out to avenge an earlier season loss to the Braves, 40-26, in week two of the regular season on August 30.

The Pirate faithful answered the call to fill the stands to cheer on their Pirates and show their Blue Pride!

The homestanding Braves (12-0) started quick and scored on 10-of-13 possessions. Charlestown did not find the scoreboard until the final stanza of play as  Brownstown Central took the 62-6 victory for the Class 3A Sectional 31 championship.

The Braves started the game on offense. Brownstown Central marched down the field before the Charlestown defense stood their ground and forced a field goal on the Braves’ first two possessions. Braves junior kicker Skyller Lewis nailed both field goals. The field goals would be the only scores in the first quarter of play as Brownstown held the early 6-0 lead heading into the second period of play.

Brownstown added 21 points in the second quarter as Jacob Wilson, Mitchell Grider and Kyle Jensen found the goal line. Braves junior quarterback Clay Brown threw two touchdown passes (to Grider and Jensen) in the 12 minute period. Lewis added the extra points as he went a perfect 8-for-8 for the evening.

The Braves held the 27-0 lead heading into the halftime break.

Brownstown Central would again add 21 points in the third stanza. The Braves recorded touchdowns from Caleb Wischmeier, Jensen and Grider. Brown hit Grider for the 36 yard touchdown pass at the 4:17 mark in the stanza which would prove to be the last score of the quarter.
