|Scottsburg man killed in collision of two SUVs on S.R. 56 Sunday afternoon|

Another fatal accident occurred in Scott County this past weekend.
Some time after 4 p.m. on Sunday, November 3, two SUVs collided head-on at the intersection of State Roads 56 and 203 east of Scottsburg, killing the driver of one of the vehicles.
Winston “Junior” Barger Jr., 50, died of injuries received when his westbound SUV was hit head-on by a 2000 Ford Explorer operated by Rebecca Campbell, Scottsburg.
According to preliminary information released by the Sheriff’s Department, Campbell told Deputy Jac Sanders that she had been eastbound on S.R. 56. As she approached the intersection, she said she noticed that a vehicle had stopped in her lane in preparation to turn left onto S.R. 203. When Campbell applied her brakes, she said they failed, and she skidded into the westbound lane, striking Barger’s vehicle.
Barger was declared dead at the scene by County Coroner Jerry Buchanan. Campbell and her two children suffered what were described as non-life-threatening injuries in the collision. They were treated at the scene by Scott County EMS personnel and then transported to Scott Memorial Hospital.
No estimate of property damage was available.
Visitation for Barger is planned tonight (Wednesday) from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg.
The funeral service will be conducted there at 2 p.m. on Thursday,November 7. Burial will be I the Barnes Community Cemetery near Nabb.
The accident resulted in the third vehicular fatality in Scott County in the past three weeks.
On October 20, a Greenwood man died in a fiery crash on Interstate 65 south of Scottsburg when his northbound pickup truck was hit head-on by an out-of-control southbound car.
On October 26, Karla Faye Owens of Scottsburg died when her SUV went out of control on North Terry Road, causing her to be ejected from the vehicle.
