Austin High School students are already planning their annual tribute to veterans past and present on Tuesday, November 11.
This year’s program is scheduled for 1 p.m. in the school auditorium, advised history teacher Ryan Herald, who organizes the event each year.
Veterans or their families may bring photos of those to be honored to the high school office through Friday, November 7. These new photos will be scanned and added to others collected over the years. “If veterans’ photos are already in our collection, they don’t need to bring them in again. We’ll prepare them for the program,” advised Herald.
Additionally, Herald stated that veterans do not need to bring service papers with them unless they wish to share them with students.
Veterans may start arriving any time after 12 noon on November 11. The program will last approximately one hour, and dinner will be served to those who attended in the high school cafeteria following the program.
Parking will be available around the high school, and both east and west doors are handicapped-accessible. Students will be on hand to greet arriving veterans and their families.
For more information, veterans may call Herald at 794-8730.
