Local football teams preparing for IHSAA Football State Tournament PDF Print E-mail

The Indiana High School Athletic Association held the draw for the 41st Annual IHSAA Football State Tournament on Sunday, October 13. The tournament is presented by the Indianapolis Colts. This  year’s new format features 322 teams and 18,668 student athletes.

For the first time, the IHSAA Football State Tournament will feature a Class 6A. This class will be for the 32 largest schools in the State of Indiana.

The Charlestown Pirates will be defending their Class 3A Sectional 31 title while the Dragons of Silver Creek will compete in the Class 4A Sectional 24.

Charlestown will face Mid Southern Conference foe Corydon Central (6-2 at press time) in the opening week of Sectional 31 play. The Pirates took the October 4 regular season win over the Panthers, 35-0. Corydon’s only other loss was to Paoli. The Panthers will finish their season this Friday against Brownstown Central. Charlestown (5-3 at press time) will finish their regular season Friday night in The Boneyard against Eastern (Pekin).

The rest of Sectional 31 will include: Game 1- Brownstown Central at Washington; Game 2- North Harrison at Mitchell and Game 3- Brown County at Salem.

Semi-Final action of Sectional 31 will pit the Winner of Game 1 against the Winner of Game 2 and the other Semi-Final game will see the Winner of Game 3 vs the Winner of Game 4. The Semi-Final winners will face off for the Sectional Championship on November 8.

Class 3A Regional action will be played November 15 followed by Semi-State November 22. The State Champion in Class 3A will be crowned on November 29.

The Sectional Tournament for the Silver Creek Dragons will begin next week, Friday, October 25. The Sectional 4A Semi-Final games will be played on November 1 with the champion being crowned on November 8.

The Dragons (3-5 at press time) will face Boonville (1-7) in the opening round of Class 4A Sectional 24 play. The Dragons have one game remaining of the regular season this week at Lawrenceburg. Silver Creek has picked up wins over Springs Valley, Eastern (Pekin) and Clarksville. Boonville, who picked up their only win over Washington in week  one, will finish the regular season Friday night at Mt. Carmel (Illinois).

The other games in Sectional 24 will include: Game 1- Owen Valley at Evansville Reitz; Game 3- Seymour at Evansville Central and Game 4- Jasper at Evansville Harrison. Semi-Final action will pit Winner of Game 1 vs Winner of Game 2 in Game 5 of Sectional play while Game 6 will see the winners of Game 3 and 4 face off. The two Semi-Final winners will collide on November 8 to determine the Sectional 24 winner.

Class 4A Regional action will be played on November 15 with the Semi-State being played on November 22. The State Championship for Class 4A will be played on November 30.

Sectional admission will be $6 per person. Regional admission will be $7 per person with Semi-State admission set at $8 per person.

State Championship tickets will be $15 per day. State Champions will be crowned at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, located at 500 Capitol Avenue. All state championship tickets will be general admission. Pre-school students will be admitted free. Single day tickets may be purchased at participating schools the week of the State Championships.
