BERNICE P. STEWART, 82, Scottsburg, died Sunday October 6, 2013 at Scott Villa Nursing Home.
She was born on September 8, 1931 in West Point, Miss. to Ernest and Ruby Whitt Phumphrey.  She had worked as a seamstress in the clothing and alterations industry.
She is survived by her husband; Arthur Stewart, son; James Lovvoran of Charlestown, daughters; Dorothy Stokes of Blue Mountain, Miss., Linda Collums of Pontotoc, Miss. and JoAnn Vige of Lake Charles, La., brother; Ernest Phumphrey of Elizabeth, sisters; Glenda Black and Bonnie Davis both of New Albany, 15 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter; Beverly Clara Lovvoran, sisters; Joyce Phumphrey, Margaret Barkemier and Harlene Phumphrey.
Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. on Thursday October 10, 2013 at Grayson Funeral Home in Charlestown with burial in Ebeneezer Cemetery near Henryville.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday and after 9 a.m. on Thursday.

PATRICIA D. FRANKLIN, 64, of Salem, died Saturday, October 5 at her home.
She was born April 23, 1949 in Washington County to Raymond Luther and Josephine Tegel Cochran. She was a former bookkeeper for Franklin's Machine Shop.
She is survived by her husband: Dennis Franklin, her daughter: Carolyn Franklin Gannaway of Franklin, Ind. and granddaughter:  Lisa Gannaway of Franklin, a brother: Lee R. Cochran of Salem, and two sisters: Sylvia Rutherford and Joann Cochran, both of Salem. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters: Joyce Colglazier and Carol Lynn Cochran.
There will be no public visitation or funeral services.


JUANITA P. SWANK, 84, of Scottsburg, died Monday, October 7, 2013 at Floyd Memorial Hospital.
She was born on March 28, 1929 in Huntsville, Mo. to the late Elmer D. Willis and Mildred  Wyatt Kaufman. She was a homemaker, a former waitress, and attended the Scottsburg First Christian Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Annasue Spencer of Scottsburg, Ilah Perry and her husband Rick of Jackson, Mich., and Delores "Dee" Mischler and her husband Bill of Floyds Knobs; three stepchildren, Judy Wright and William and Gene Swank, all of Michigan; 13 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold "Red"  Swank and a granddaughter, Kristie Medford.
Funeral Service: 10:00 am Thursday, Oct. 10, 2013 at Collins Funeral Home with Larry DeWitt officiating. Graveside Services: 12 Noon Friday at Roseland Memorial Gardens in Jackson, Mich.
Visitation: 4 to 8 pm Wednesday and after 9 am Thursday.

DELORA HOWARD, 87, formerly of Scottsburg, died Tuesday, October 08, 2013 at Clark Memorial Hospital.
She worked in the ICU unit in Charlestown and was a member of the Five Pentecostal Holiness in Austin.
She is survived by her son Arnold Howard of English, Ind.; her sister Rita Hubbard of Sellersburg; her brothers Arnold Howard of Okolona, Ky., Clayton Howard of Palmyra and Connison Howard of Jeffersonville; her six grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father Tom Howard; mother Laura Howard; brothers Finley, Claude, Raymond, Alva and Danny Howard.
Funeral service will be held Friday, October 11, 2013 at Pathfork Free Pentecostal Holiness Church located in Pathfork, Ky. at 1:00 p.m. Internment will follow at Saylor Cemetery located in Pathfork.
Visitation will be held Thursday, October 10, 2013 at E.M. Coots’ Sons funeral home from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

MARY LUCILLE REED, 88, of Otisco, died on Tuesday October 8, 2013 at her home.
She was born on November 20, 1924 in Newnan, Ga. to Emmett and Ruth Boyd Smith.  She was a retired employee of General Electric, a housewife, and a member of the Henryville United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her sons; Ronald Reed of Otisco and James D. Reed (Irene) of Charlestown, daughter; Rosemary Applegate (Robert) of Charlestown, brother; Harvey Smith of Newnan, Ga., sister, Jane Moore of Grantville, Ga. and grandchildren: Serena Bradford, Heather Chester, Holly Propes, Eric Reed, Mandy Crace, Jamie Applegate and Mike Reed, and 16 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband James Reed, Son John Reed and an infant son.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday October 11, 2013 at Grayson Funeral Home in Charlestown with burial in Mt. Moriah Cemetery near Henryville, IN.  Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday.

GENEVA J. MERANDA, 89, Scottsburg, died Friday, October 4, 2013.
She was born on June 26, 1924 in Scottsburg to J.O. And Alma Richey Murphy. She was formerly employed at L B Stewart & Son; formerly employed at Scottsburg Building & Loan, and formerly employed at Scottsburg Library; past member of Phi Beta Psi Sorority. She was a member of First Christian Church of Scottsburg.
Survivors include Brother: Ronald Murphy (Maralyn), Scottsburg; Grandchildren: Byron Meranda (Pam), Matt Meranda (Jen), Monica Bowman, William Meranda, Marie Meranda, Patricia Meranda & her mother Debbie Asbell; Great grandchildren: Cheyenne Meranda, Koen David Meranda, Kylie Meranda; Daughters-in-law: Bonnie Meranda, Connie Meranda; Nieces: Debbie Murphy, Laura Ann Alger (Doug), Sue Jenkins (Brian); Nephew: Bob Meranda (Judy); Best Friend: Kathryn Nicholas. She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband Roy Meranda; sons David Meranda & Richard Meranda.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 8, 2013 at First Christian Church. Burial followed in Scottsburg Cemetery.

WILLIE MULLINS, 74,  of Austin, died Wednesday,  October 9, 2013  at his residence.
He was born January 23, 1939 in Wolf Coal, KY, of the late Ed  and Stella  Mullins. He was a former employee of Golden Castings in Columbus.
Survivors include: Sons: Dan, Seth and Zeb Cornett, all of Austin, Junior and  Anthony White, both of Austin; Daughters: Pearly Jean Newton of Austin and  Deborah Ruth Burnner of Independence, Ky.; Brothers: Sambo Mullins of Austin, Farmer Mullins of Paris Crossing, Ed Mullins, Jr., of Corbin, Ky. and Wilson Mullins of Strongs Branch, Ky.; Sisters: Rosa Lee Bergstron of Arizona, Dona White and Phyllis Jean Mullins, and Cathy Ann Mullins, all of Strongs Branch; and 12 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by: A sister Florence White.
Funeral Service will be at  3:00 pm Sunday, October 13, 2013 at Buchanan Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Madden officiating. Burial will be in the Spurgeon Cemetery  in Austin.
Visitation will be 1 P.M. to 3 P.M. Sunday at Buchanan Funeral Home.
