An employee of a well-known Scottsburg hardware store was taken into custody Friday, September 13, after sheriff’s deputies found stolen items at his home.

Charles “Ed” Gray, 42, has been initially charged with corrupt business influence, a Class C felony, advised Scott County Prosecutor Jason Mount. He was being held at the Scott County Security Center on Monday, September 16, awaiting an initial court hearing.

Gray allegedly stole a quantity of merchandise from his employer, Scotts Ace Hardware of Scottsburg, and then sold around $8,000 worth of items using his Ebay account.

When deputies served a search warrant on Gray at his home on South Washington Street, a reported $5,000 worth of merchandise was recovered.

The search warrant was issued based on an on-going investigation by the Sheriff’s Department of missing merchandise at the hardware store.
