Two Austin residents are now facing charges in Scott Circuit Court in connection with dealing drugs.

On August 1, Austn officers conducted an undercover drug buy, allegedly from Roscoe Barnett, 81, at Barnett’s home on U.S. Highway 31 North. His residence is across the highway from Scott School District 1 property.

Barnett was charged on September 13 with Class A felony dealing in a Schedule 1-3 controlled substance, Roxicodone, and a Class D felony, maintaining a common nuisance.

At his initial court hearing on Monday, September 16, Barnett pleaded not guilty.

He advised that he planned to hire an attorney, and a jury trial date of March 4, 2014, was scheduled on the court’s docket.

His bail was set at $75,000 corporate surety/full cash.

On September 7, officers with the Austin Police Department conducted another undercover “buy.”

The undercover informant allegedly purchased a 30mg Opana pill from Ossie H. White Jr., 37, at his residence on Church Street.

White was subsequently charged with a Class B felony dealing in a Schedule 1-3 controlled substance and maintaining a common nuisance, a Class D felony.

When he appeared at his initial court hearing on Monday, White too entered a not guilty plea. His jury trial is scheduled February 11. A public defender will be appointed to assist him in his defense.
