The Eastern High School volleyball traveled to Bedford North Lawrence Torunament on Saturday, Aug. 31.

The Lady Musketeers battled and put down 48 team kills led by Whitney Sacksteder with 12, Emily Eisenback with 11, and Courtney Hoke with eight.  

Laken Heavner led the Musketeers on the defensive side with 17 digs for the day.

Eastern finished the day with a 1-2 record, beating Charlestown and falling to North Harrison and Scottsburg.

The scores were, (Charlestown) 23-25, 25-23, 17-15; (North Harrison) 15-25, 11-25; and (Scottsburg) 14-25, 21-25.

On Thursday, Aug. 29, the Salem Lady Lion golf team traveled to Westwood and picked up two wins over Mid Southern Conference foes.

Salem scored 186, compared to 209 from Scottsburg and 236 from North Harrison. Austin competed, but was not able to record a team score because of not having enough players.

Emily Motsinger was medalist for the Lady Lions with 43.

Other Salem scorers were, Madison Aly 46, Mariah Deaton 47, Amber Kilburn 50 and freshman Elizabeth Weaver 58.

The Lady Lions picked up two more wins on Sept. 6 over Eastern and Brownstown.

Salem shot a 184, Brownstown scored 205 and the Lady Musketeers carded a 236.

The medalist was the Lady Lions’ Madison Aly with a 43.

Motsinger scored 46, Amber Kilburn had a 46, Mariah Deaton shot 49 and Elizabeth Weaver 61.

Eastern’s scorers were, Hannah Ingram 53, Katelyn Cottingim 59, Mary Carlton 61 and Kolbi Sponcel 64.

“We played well the last two matches,” said SHS Head Coach Jean Brown, “but we are still leaving too many shots around the green.”
