EVERETT RUTHERFORD, 82, Salem, died Saturday, August 31 at his home.
He was born September 27, 1931 in Washington County, the son of Harley and Mabel Weston Rutherford. He was a retired farmer and a former employee of Smith Cabinet and Arvin's Tailpipe in Seymour.  He was a member of Mt. Tabor Christian Church and a Korean War Army veteran.
He was preceded in death his wife Nelda Daileen Stephenson Rutherford on May 11, 2013.  He was also preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.
He is survived by his son Roy Lee Rutherford of Orleans, two brothers, Howard Rutherford of Orleans and James Rutherford of Detroit, Michigan and sisters:  Flossie Louise Collins of Austin and Marjorie and Dorene Rutherford both of Scottsburg.
Funeral services were Thursday, Sept. 5, 2013 at Weathers Funeral Home. Burial followed in Mt. Tabor Cemetery.


JIMMIE EDWARD STINES, 64, of Salem, died August 31, 2013 at the St. Vincent Salem Hospital.
Born on April 20, 1949 in Appalachia, Virginia, he was the son of Willie E. Stines and Nellie Miller Stines. He was a Vietnam Army Veteran. He was a self-employed general contractor and brick layer.
Survivors include two daughters, Tonya Wade of Salem and Andrea Blanton of Mitchell; one brother, Daniel R. Stines of Salem; one sister, Mary Alhgren of North Dakota and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Linda Gayle Stines.
There was a graveside service on Thursday, Sept. 5, 2013 at the Walnut Hill Cemetery in Borden with Full Military Honors.
Hughes-Taylor Funeral Home in Salem handled the arrangements.

HARVEY THURSTON JACKSON, 70, Salem, died Friday, August 30 at Floyd Memorial Hospital.
He was born April 18, 1943 in Clark County, the son of Harvey Jackson and Ruth VanGilder Jackson Hazelwood.  He was a member of a non-denominational church and a former member of the National Guard.
He is survived by his mother, Ruth Hazelwood of Salem; five brothers, Kenny Jackson and Marshall Jackson both of Fort Wayne, Mike Jackson of Texas, Darrell Jackson of Salem and Herbie Hazelwood of Kentucky, three sisters, Betty Dye of Fort Wayne, Rosemary Albertson of Texas and Denise Young of Salem.
He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Larry Jackson.
Funeral services were Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2013 at Weathers Funeral Home.  Burial followed in Forest Grove (Wiley's Chapel) Cemetery.


LYMAN A. CHASTAIN, 79, Campbellsburg died Friday, August 30 at Jewish Hospital in Louisville.
He was born February 20, 1934 in Indianapolis, Indiana the son of Maurice Chastain and Ruby Stephenson Chastain Humphrey.  He was retired from Washington County Farm Bureau and Walthers Farm Service.  He was a member of Campbellsburg Christian Church.
He is survived by his wife, Esther Gilbert Chastain. They were married August 15, 1953. He is also survived by two sons, Tim Chastain (Leann) of Campbellsburg and Aaron Chastain of Salem; a daughter, Deb Penrod (Dane) of Syracuse, Indiana; five brothers, Roddy, Harold and Jerald Humphrey all of Salem, Dean Humphrey of Fruitland Park, Florida and Donald Humphrey of Santa Rosa, California; a sister, Martha Nixon of Sydney, Australia, seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his stepfather, Roger Humphrey and a granddaughter, Stephanie Chastain.
Funeral services were, Wednesday, Sept. 4. 2013 at Weathers Funeral Home.  Burial followed in Mt. Tabor Cemetery.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Cancer Care Center of New Albany, 2210 Green Valley Road, New Albany, IN  47150.


ROBERT LINN PEARSON, 53, of Scottsburg, died Monday, September 2, 2013 at Scott Memorial Hospital.
He was born on November 10, 1959 in Seymour, the son of Richard and Wanda  (Baker) Pearson.  He was married on Dec. 17, 1988 to Paula  (Hendricks) Pearson, who survives. He was an employee of Versatech in Crothersville, and a member of Restoration Christian Church in Sellersburg.
Survivors include his wife, Paula Pearson; two daughters; Morgan and Rebecca Pearson, both of Scottsburg; three sons, Joseph, Isaiah and Gabriel Pearson all of Scottsburg; his parents, Richard and Wanda Pearson of Crothersville;  two brothers, Rick and Lester Pearson and a sister, Kay Campbell and her husband Melvin all of Crothersville.
He was also survived by his nieces & nephews.
Funeral services were Thursday, Sept. 5, 2013 at Collins Funeral Home with burial in New Chapel Cemetery near Underwood.

NANCY CATHERINE STEWART, 61, died Monday, September 2, 2013 at Floyd Memorial Hospital in New Albany.
She was born in Jeffersonville on August 11, 1952 the daughter of John and Pearl Hammett Trebing. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Corydon, where she served as the administrative secretary.
She was preceded in death by her father and her brother Mike Trebing.
She is survived by her husband Rick Stewart; two daughters, Jenny Krider (Karl), Beth Mathes (Josh); her mother, Pearl Trebing; three grandchilren, Addison and Jenna Mathes and Lorelai Krider all of Corydon; her brother, Nick Trebing (Sally) of Indianapolis.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013. Father Dan Atkins, Father Harry Tully and Father Rob Hankee will be the celebrants.
Visitation will be held at Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Home in Corydon on Friday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and after 8:30 a.m. on Saturday.
The family suggests memorial gifts be made to either her church or to Susan G. Komen For the Cure.
Pallbearers will be Jenny Krider, Joyce Gilcrease, Beth Mathes, Addison Mathes, Lorelai Krider, Jenna Mathes, Cathy Summers, Kim Wetzel, Ruth Hanson, Jessica Schneider, Mary Casabella and Rosemary Bullerdick.


LEWIS A. BIERMAN, 86, of Greenville, died on Monday, September 2, 2013 at his home with his family by his side.
He was a retired contractor and a United States Army Air Corp veteran. Lewis enjoyed traveling, selling his worldly treasures, and could easily be described as a people person. He was born on April 30, 1927 in Floyd County, to the late Arthur and Lillian (Banet) Bierman.
He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Marcellus and Arthur Bierman, Jr.
He is survived by his children, David Bierman (Laura), Daniel Bierman (Cheri), Margaret Brethauer (Russell), Barbara Rainbolt (Steve), Sandy Hunt; siblings, Merrel Bierman (Thelma), Patsy Elger, Frank Bierman (June); 11 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 5, 2013 from 1-8 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany) and on Friday after 11 a.m. His Funeral Service will take place on Friday at 1 p.m. in the chapel at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will take place at a later date at the New Albany National Cemetery.

EVA WINGLER, 91, Campbellsburg, died Friday, August 30, 2013 at Meadow View Health Care Center in Salem.


DIANE PATRICIA JOHNSON, 48, New Salisbury, died Monday, September 2, 2013.
She was a registered nurse, having worked most recently at Harrison County Hospital.
Survivors include her husband: Jim Johnson; her children: Matthew, Christina and Melanie; her parents: Gerald and Patricia Terry; her sister: Linda Gregory (Dan); her brother: Scott Terry (Lisa); and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at St. Michael's Bradford in Greenville on Friday, September 6, beginning at 11 am. Visitation will be from 1 to 8 pm on Thursday, September 5.
Love Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

SUE JANE KAMERDIENER PAUL, 85, Hanover, formerly of Madison, died Monday, September 2, 2013 at Thornton Terr4ace Health Campus.
She was born on August 7, 1928 in Cincinnati, Oh. to the late George J. and Pearl Eckles Kamerdiener. She retired as an instructional assistant for the Madison Consolidated School System.
Survivors include her sons & daughters-in-law: Frank & Carolynne Paul of Wilmette, Illinois, John R. & Beth Paul of Frankfort, Kentucky; her grandchildren: Susan Paul, David Paul & Sarah Paul Kennedy and her husband, Brad; her niece: Susan Hartman & husband: Jerry, her nephew: Steve Schmidt.
Family members who preceded her in death are her husband: John H. "J.P." Paul died: Nov. 22, 1993; her sister: Louise Schmidt; her step granddaughter, Melissa Cella.
Funeral services will be held at 4 pm on Thursday, September 5, 2013 at the Madison Presbyterian Church. Private burial will follow at the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
Visitation will take place at the church from 2 pm until the time of services on Thursday.
Memorial contributions may be made to The John & Sue Paul Scholarship Fund at the Lide White Boys & Girls Club.


RUTH ELLEN PREWITT, 64, Crothersville, died Tuesday, September 3, 2013.
She was born August 21, 1949 in Crothersville to the late Osborne “Bob” and Agnes Jolly Prewiit. In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by a brother, James E. Prewitt.  Survivors include five sisters, Patricia Callam of Seymour, Peggy Mace and her husband Glen of Scottsburg, Mary Lou Donohue and her husband Tom of Overland Park, Kansas, Margaret Sue Hennessey of Montville, Ohio and Frances Sparrow and her husband John of Scottsburg, Indiana;  three brothers, Frank Prewitt and his wife Lydia of Seymour, Indiana, Steve Prewitt and his wife Charmaine of Mosinee, Wisconsin and Doug Prewitt and his wife Robin of Scottsburg, Indiana and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life was held Saturday, September 7, 2013 at Uniontown Baptist Church. Burial followed at a later date in Uniontown Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Uniontown Cemetery c/o Collins Funeral Home.


LINDA MARIE SANDLIN, 28,  of Austin, died Sunday,  September 1, 2013  at Norton's Hospital in Louisville.
She was born December 10, 1984 in Salem.
Survivors include: Children,  Trenton, Bryson, Rebecca and McHala Riley, all of Austin; Parents:  Earl and Alice Faye Sandlin of Austin; Brother: Timmy (Barbara) Sandlin, Austin; Sister: Connie (Mike) Owens, Austin. She was preceded in death by her Brothers, Eddie and Roger Dale Sandlin and a sister, Telvis Ann Mullins.
Funeral Service were held Thursday, September 5, 2013 at Buchanan Funeral Home with Rev. Kevin Lewis officiating. Burial followed in Spurgeon Cemetery.

RICHARD “RICK” JOSEPH JOHNSON, 50, Henryville, died Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at University of Louisville Hospital.
He was born August 24, 1963 in Dillsboro, Ind. to Paul Huber and Helen (Pribble) Johnson and his father Buck Johnson who raised him. He was employed at Essroc Cement in Speed. He was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church, past member of the Rural Membership Water Corporation in Henryville, and served on the Monroe Township Volunteer Fire Department for 30 years where he was past chief.
Survivors include his wife: Karen K. Reul who survives in Henryville. Rick is also survived by his two children, Steven R. (fiancé Anna McGuire of Underwood, IN) and Sarah Johnson, both of Henryville, mother-in-law, Darlene Reul of Henryville, brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws, Pat Greenwood of Henryville, Kathy (Jack) Cleveland of Henryville, Kim (CJ) Brishaber of Henryville, Kevin (Ebbie) Reul of Scottsburg, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by all of his parents, a brother, Randy Huber, sister, Rhetta Greenwood, and his father-in-law, Bob Reul.
A Mass of Christian burial was held Saturday, September 7, 2013 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church officiated by Father Steve Schaftein with burial at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery.

JIMMY D. BUCHANAN, 69, Madison, formerly of New Albany, died Monday, September 2, 2013 at King's Daughters' Hospital.
He was born on April 19, 1944 in Crab Orchard, Ky. to the late Joe and Gertie Greer Buchanan. He was a retired meat cutter, having worked with Thriftway in Jeffersonville for forty years.
Survivors include his wife, Mary C. Emmons Buchanan of Madison, Indiana; his loving son, Jeff Buchanan and his wife, Tammy of New Albany, Indiana; his loving daughter, Diana Buchanan of Louisville, Kentucky; his grandchildren, Kendall and Taylor; his mother in law, Josephine Emmons of Madison, Indiana; his step sons, Jason Thompson of New Albany, Indiana, Jesse Thompson of Madison, Indiana, Jeremy Yocum of Palmyra, Indiana, Michael Yocum of Palmyra, Indiana, Tony Emmons of New Albany, Indiana; his sister, Betty Ross of Salem, Indiana; his brother, Joey Buchanan of Columbus, Indiana; his five step grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services were held Saturday, September 7, 2013 at Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre. Burial followed at Bayless Cemetery in Madison.

RICK L. QUINLIN, 56 of Pekin, died Wednesday, September 4 at 7:15PM at Floyd Memorial Hospital.
He was born July 6, 1957 in Washington County to William D. and Dorothy F. Harrold Quinlin.  He was a retired truck driver and dispatcher.
He is survived by his wife:  Nancy Beth Hughes Quinlin.  They were married October 13, 2001.  He is also survived by two sons:  Chris and Scott Quinlin both of Salem, a daughter:  Kellie Quinlin Wilson (Tim) of Salem, three brothers:  Mark and Bobby Quinlin both of Salem and Billy Quinlin of Florida, a sister:  Cathy Quinlin of Salem, his first wife:  Dawn Loftus Quinlin of Salem and 4 grandchildren.   He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services were Saturday at Weathers Funeral Home.  Burial followed in Crown Hill Cemetery.


EUNICE M. HANEY, 79, of Scottsburg, died Thursday, September 5, 2013 at Scott Memorial Hospital.
She was born on October 10, 1933 in Owensboro, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Eunice and Dorothy Louise (Shelton) Boling.  She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas E. Haney and a grandson, Mike Haney, Jr.  Survivors include a daughter, Deborah L. Haney of Scottsburg, Indiana; two sons, Chris Haney of Owensboro, Kentucky and Mike Haney of Whiteville, Kentucky; a great aunt, Betty Hawk of Owensboro, Kentucky; a cousin, Frankie Hall of Ft. Meade, Maryland; five grandchildren, Lauren Rae Haney, Kristen Haney (Marlene Mattingly), April, Jeff and David Haney and several great grandchildren.
Funeral Service: Sunday, September 8, 2013 at Bethel Baptist Church  with burial in Bethel Baptist Cemetery.

LONNIE LEE MOORE, SR., 79, of Panama City Beach, FL died on Wednesday September 4, 2013 at the home of his son in Gotha, Fla.
He was born on January 19, 2013 in Augusta, Arkansas to Clarence H. and Delphia Looney Moore.  He was also a veteran and a retired contractor.
He is survived by his sons; Lonnie Moore, JR. of Los Angeles, CA, Gene Linder of Gotha, FL, Tony Lee Moore of Panama City, FL, daughter; Teresa Cox of Laguna Beach, FL. and 9 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday September 9, 2013 at Grayson Funeral Home with burial in Charlestown Cemetery.

RUTH JEAN ORENDORFF, 85, died September 4th at Autumn Woods Health Campus in New Albany.
She was born Feb. 11, 1928 to George and Icie McCombs of Leitchfield, Kentucky. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Ralph , and sister Georgia Johnson.
After high school she was employed at Krogers in Louisville when she met and married Robert (Bob) Orendorff, a captain in the Army at Fort Knox in 1950. He was assigned to Germany shortly thereafter, where they lived for three years. Their first daughter Patricia was born in Germany. Bob and Jean had a wonderful four years on the Island of Maui where he was stationed in 1958. After retiring from the Army in 1964, Jean and Bob lived in Georgetown.
She was known throughout the area for her large collection of over 300 varieties of hostas and beautiful hosta gardens.  She was a Kentucky Colonel and a member of the Order of Eastern Star.
She is survived by her husband Bob of 63 years, her four daughters and their husbands: Patricia (Jim) Sheehan, Barbara (Chris) McKinley, Peggy (Bruce) Leidolf, Kim (Andy) Flint, her sister Scyble Payne, and eight grandchildren.
Cremation was chosen and a private memorial service will be arranged at a later date.
Scott Funeral Home of Jeffersonville is in charge of the arrangements.
