Tuesday, Aug. 27 at the Hokum Karem cross country meet held annually at Indiana University Southeast, the Borden girls’ team had a strong finish.

Senior Abby Ellis and sophomore Brooklyn Agnew finished eighth, and senior Courtney Welp and freshman Kate Gertin finished in 24th place.

The Boren boys’ team won the meet finishing with 21 points.

Brothers Sophomore Julien Magallanes and senior Nathen Magallanes won the meet. Brothers senior George Tipker and junior Gavin Tipker finished 4th. Senior Brian McGee and junior David Wright finished 16th followed by junior Andy Stonecipher and sophomore Will Little in 21st place.


Lanesville volleyball

gets past SC

The Lanesville High School volleyball team won an exciting match on Tuesday Aug. 27 against visiting South Central.

The Lady Eagles won the first game 25-16.

South Central got the second one 25-23, but after taking control with a game three win 25-22, Lanesville won the fourth, and deciding game 25-17.

Robyn Schoen led the way for Lanesville with seven kills and Haylie Walter had five. Hannah Conder added four kills.

Conder also had 30 assists to go with her kill total and Peyton Bank had 27 assists.

Schoen and Haylie Walter had five aces each.

The Eastern High School junior varsity tennis team hosted a match Tuesday, Aug. 27 against Austin and fell to the visiting Eagles, 4-1.

Number one singles was the only one that went to the Musketeers when Quentin Schear beat Luke Beach 7-5, 7-6 (9).

Austin won the other matches.

Aaron Wall fell 6-1, 6-0 to Colton Rottet at number two singles.

Austin’s Josh Barnes defeated Ben Prindle at number three singles, 6-0, 6-0.

In number one doubles, Quentin Purlee and Kyle McClellan lost to Kyle Rottet and Preston Cunningham, 6-2, 6-1.

The Eagles’ Ryan McCubbins and Ridge Hess beat Caleb McNew and Connor Hoke, 6-1, 6-0, at number two doubles.


EHS varsity tennis blanks Clarksville

The Eastern High School varsity tennis team won 5-0 over Clarksville in a match played Wednesday, Aug. 28.

The Musketeers won all three singles matches. The two doubles matches were also one, but Clarksville forfeited.

In number one singles, Alex Doebler won 6-4, 6-4 over Adam Bryant.

Grant Newcomb defeated Griffin Foley, 6-0, 6-0, at number two singles.

Jordan Gray turned back Ethan Tackett, 6-1, 6-0, in number three singles.

Eastern is 1-1 on the season and 1-1 in Mid Southern Conference play.


EHS volleyball team falls

The Eastern High School varsity and junior varsity volleyball team continues to come out of the gate slowly.

The team was still searching for its first win Tuesday against visiting Clarksville.

The Lady Musketeers were competitive in two of the three varsity matches, but was outmatched at junior varsity.

The Lady General varsity team won 25-18, 25-13, 25-22.

In the JV match Clarksville won 25-11, 25-11.

In a match played Wednesday, the Lady Musketeer junior varsity team lost to Providence 25-11, 25-6.

In the varsity match, the Lady Pioneers beat EHS 25-11, 25-5, 25-5.
