A Scottsburg woman was fatally injured in a moped accident on Coffee Pot Road on Friday night, August 23.

Terry Ann Fox, 41, was pronounced dead at the scene by Scott County Coroner Jerry Buchanan. The accident occurred just north of the t-intersection with Van Campen Road around 9:30 p.m.

Fox and one of her sons, Gary Dalton Spicer, had been riding the moped on Coffee Pot Rd. when one or both of the vehicle’s tires apparently

slipped off the pavement. Her attempts to get the moped back onto the road may have caused her to lose control of the vehicle, which fell, causing

Fox to strike her head on the pavement.

Deputy Joe Johnson was called to the scene by dispatchers, who received 9-1-1 calls. One motorist who had come upon the accident had taken

the small boy she found running down the road into her car as they waited for help to arrive.

Unfortunately, the woman’s head injury caused her death at the scene, and Scott County EMS technicians were unable to help her. The

ambulance service transported the child to Scott Memorial Hospital for evaluation. He had abrasions on his face and body from the mishap.

The youngster was later released to his father, identified as Gary L. Spicer. Spicer had come to the hospital’s emergency room, seeking

information about his son and Fox, his girlfriend. The man said he had received information about the accident from friends. He told Deputy

Johnson that he was aware that Fox and the child were on the moped and would have been traveling on Coffee Pot Road.

A funeral service for the woman will be arranged by her family at a later date, according to a representative of the Buchanan Funeral Home in Austin.
