Registration is now open for the inaugural Pirate Fun Run 5K & Kiddie Run scheduled for Saturday, August 17. This event is sponsored by Anytime Fitness of Charlestown, Pacers & Racers Running-Walking Store, Sampan Screen Print, Patti Howard and Dayna Ashley of Schuler Bauer Real Estate and Magnus Auction Service Indiana, and is being held in partnership with Charlestown High School, Charlestown Middle School, Jonathan Jennings Elementary School and Pleasant Ridge Elementary School.
Inspired by Rachel’s Challenge (www.RachelsChallenge.org), an effort to promote kindness, this year’s race will be for the benefit of Sarah Booth, a 14-year-old freshman at Charlestown High School. In December of 2012, Sarah experienced life-threatening complications immediately following her kidney transplant that left her in need of yet another transplant. Because of this, Sarah is on a large and costly amount of life-saving medication.
The Pirate Fun Run 5K (walkers welcome) will officially start at 8 a.m., with two Kiddie Runs to follow shortly thereafter (“Run the Plank,” for ages 4-7; “Buccaneer Dash,” for ages 8-10). Registration and check-in will be held near the Charlestown High School football field from 6:30 to 7:30 a.m. The pre-registration fee is $20; the late entry fee (received after August 10) is $25. Net proceeds of this event will be for The Benefit of Sarah Booth Kidney Transplant. Packet pick-up for the race will be held at Anytime Fitness of Charlestown, 1107 Market Street, from 3 to 8 p.m. on Friday, August 16.
This road race will begin on Park Street, near the Charlestown High School student parking lot. Following the 5K, both Kiddie races will be held on the CHS track. Extra parking will be available at the new Family Activities Center and Sprinkler Park (see details at www.cityofcharlestown.com). Spectators are invited and encouraged to attend. Awards will be given to the top male and female finishers in each age group for the 5K Run. All Kiddie Run participants will receive a ribbon. All participants who register on or before August 10 will be guaranteed a race t-shirt and all participants will be eligible for door prizes. Pirate costumes are encouraged!
Printable race applications are available at Anytime Fitness of Charlestown or on-line by visiting http://www.cityofcharlestown.com.
