?    Osteoarthritis affects approximately 11 percent of people over 64 years of age and although the condition is widespread, it doesn’t make it any less painful for the sufferer.
On Thursday, October 30 from 2-4 p.m. the Biomet Heartland Mobile Learning Center will be available in the hospital parking lot for the public to tour. The Biomet Heartland Mobile Learning Center is a 42-foot coach uniquely equipped to provide an interactive, fun way to learn about arthritis and treatment options. That evening, WCMH Orthopedic Surgeon Waqar Aziz, MD, will discuss the latest treatment options in partial joint replacement from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the hospital classroom.
Dr. Aziz is the only physician in the area performing the Oxford Partial Knee Replacement procedure. The Oxford procedure allows the physician to replace a smaller area and it eliminates the need to wait a long period of time before undergoing surgery.
This surgery only replaces one side of the knee, rather than replacing the whole knee in a total knee replacement. This method requires small, less invasive incisions, and reduces recovery time and post-operative pain. Most patients recover in half the time of a conventional joint replacement procedure.
