The Clark County 4-H Corporation Board honored one of their own during last week’s 4-H Fair.
Roberta Bastian has served as a leader for the Clark County 4-H Program for 50 years. She was surprised the opening night of the fair with a celebration after the dress revue with cupcakes and punch. Bastian was surrounded by family, 4-H’ers and fair goers. She was also honored on Friday night prior to the Livestock Auction. Bob Allen, Extension Educator, presented Roberta Dietrich Bastian with a Clark County 4-H Memory Brick. During the celebration on Friday night, Bastian was surrounded by her granddaughters.

Bastian, a retired teacher from Greater Clark County Schools, has been involved with 4-H all of the 73 years of her life. As an 11-year old she joined a local club and was hooked on 4-H. After having received awards, trips, scholarships and life-long friendships as a 4-H member, she decided to pay back the organization by becoming a leader of the Busy 4-H’ers of Nabb 4-H Club. Five years ago
she started an additional club, The Adventurers, in Henryville, and is now helping with both clubs. Throughout her tenure, she has been very involved in her local 4-H club activities as well as those in Clark County.
Among her opportunities has been serving as an officer in her local club and Junior Leaders as a teenager, then the Clark County 4-H Corporation Board, Clark County 4-H Club Leaders Organization, several terms on the Clark County Extension Board, and has co-chaired and chaired the 4-H Exhibit Building at the Clark County 4-H Fair as an adult.
4-H has been an important part of her family. Bastian became acquainted with her husband through 4-H and is proud that her three children were all 10 year members. Now her grandchildren are becoming involved as well. Being recognized as a 50 year leader in the 4-H program is a rewarding experience for her. She is very proud and thankful to have been a part of the lives of the many fine young people who have joined and participated in her clubs throughout the  years.
Bastian has touched the lives of many Clark County 4-H’ers and their families. She continues to inspire, motivate and teach the 4-H way of  how “To Make the Best Better.”
