Friday, July 26, is the date scheduled for parents/guardians to apply for textbook assistance and/or free or reduced cost meals for their children in Scott School District 1 in Austin.
On July 26, staff will be available to help parents/legal guardians from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Austin Elementary School cafeteria.


To apply, the following is needed:
•Food Stamp number or TANF Case Number if applicable. This is not the number on the applicant’s Hoosier Works Card. If the number is unknown, the applicant must contact his/her caseworker to obtain the correct number.
•If there is no Food Stamp or TANF number, the applicant must supply the following:
•Name of each household member.
•Total income of each household member.
•Applicant’s Social Security number.
If the parent/legal guardian does not submit an application to staff prior to the first day of school on Friday, August 2, parents will be responsible for any meal charges incurred.
Pre-registration for students who plan to attend classes and are new to Scott School District 1 in Austin is scheduled on Thursday, July 25.
Parents/guardians must bring any school records, withdrawal forms or grade reports they have from their children’s former schools.
New student pre-registration is:
THURSDAY, JULY 25
Sixth, seventh and eighth graders from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Middle School office.
FRIDAY, JULY 26
Preschoolers through fifth graders from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Austin Elementary School cafeteria.
New preschoolers and kindergartners who did not sign up during spring registrations for these grade levels and those students in grades one to five who are new to Scott School District 1 should register on Friday, July 26, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the elementary cafeteria.
New ninth to 12th graders should report from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the high school office.
Textbook and meal payments will be accepted as follows:
•Friday, July 26: Kindergartners to fifth graders from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the elementary cafeteria.
•Friday, July 26: 6th graders from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Middle School office.
•Monday, July 29: 11th and 12th grades from 8 to 11 a.m. and from 12 noon to 3 p.m. at the High School office; and 7th and 8th grades from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Middle School office.
•Tuesday, July 30: 9th and 10th grades from 8 to 11 a.m. and from 12 noon to 3 p.m. at the High School office.
Parents of ninth to 12th graders should accompany their students to these registrations to complete required forms.
Textbook prices for 2013-2014 are $50 for Prosser Technical School students and $100 for students from kindergarten through 12th grades.
Cost of District 1 textbooks may be paid by cash, check or money order. Checks and money orders should be made payable to Scott County School District 1.
Meal money must be paid by the first day of school, August 2.
Breakfast is 90 cents per day for preschoolers and for kindergarten through fifth grade and $1 per day for grades six to 12.
Lunch is $1.80 per day for preschool through fifth grade and $2 per day for grades six to 12.
