The growing congregation at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church in Floyds Knobs and New Albany, Ind., has added the Rev. Peter Curts to its staff as teaching pastor, effective July 1.
In his new role at Wesley Chapel, Rev. Curts will oversee caring for people and serving the community, two of the church’s five defined focuses. He will preach at the three Sunday morning worship services--contemporary at 8:30 and 11 and traditional at 9:45--at the church’s Hwy. 150 Campus at 2100 Hwy. 150 in Floyds Knobs, Ind., in July on the topic of “Mountains Moving.” Sunday School classes also are held there during all three morning hours.
Pastor Curts will teach a variety of classes throughout the year and will deliver messages from time to time at those services, as well as at the 5 p.m. traditional service on Sundays at the Grant Line Campus at 4810 Grant Line Road in New Albany.
“I am excited about the opportunities to extend hospitality, reach out to people, sit down for a cup of coffee with them, and develop relationships as I become acquainted with my new community,” he said. “So I welcome people to take me up on that invitation.”
The new teaching pastor and his wife, the former Allison Koehler of Brazil, Ind., have come to the area from Meridian Street United Methodist Church in Indianapolis, where he served as associate pastor of hospitality for two years. Prior to that, he served three churches in the Otisco, Ind., area for two years.
A native of Noblesville, Ind., Rev. Curts grew up in the congregation of the large St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in Indianapolis. He earned a bachelor’s degree in philosophy and religion from DePauw University and a master of divinity degree from Asbury College. He serves on the Strategic Planning Committee for the Indiana Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church.
The Rev. Tony Alstott is lead pastor at Wesley Chapel and will work closely with Pastor Curts and other staff members as the congregation continues to grow and minister in the three other major areas of focus as well--passionate worship, intentional Bible study, and extravagant generosity.
