Charlestown High School Director of Athletics Kim Carroll announced Wednesday, May 8, that Scott Matthews has been named as the varsity girls’ basketball coach.
Matthews has been employed with Greater Clark County Schools for two years, recently serving as a physical education and world history teacher. He is a graduate of New Washington High School where he played varsity basketball. Matthews played basketball at the collegiate level and then took his first coaching position with Northeast Missouri State University in 1994, serving as the men’s assistant basketball coach. He served in the same role at Pfeiffer College and University of Missouri before returning to the high school level. He was the varsity boys’ basketball coach at Shawe Memorial High School, Austin High School, and Clarksville High School.
Matthews stated, “I’m honored to be named varsity girls’ basketball coach at Charlestown High School. I’m excited about the future of our program and can’t wait to get started.”
