The following is a list of activities planned for this summer at the New Albany-Floyd County library.
Starting May 20, we’ll have online registration for the Summer Reading Club at:  http://nafclibrarysr.evanced.info and online registration for other summer programs at:  http://nafclibrary.evanced.info/.
Families can stop by our “Make & Take” Craft Station available all summer long.  You’ll find a different craft each week!
Children’s Summer Reading Club “Dig Into Reading”
Date:  May 20-July 31.
Further Information:  Sign-ups for the Summer Reading Club start May 20.  Each child will receive a joining packet.  Children can choose to read 50 books or 600 minutes.  Ask Children Department Staff about our pre-reader program for children 2 and under!  The Summer Reading Club is for children birth-5th grade.
Dig Into Reading Kick Off Party!
Date & Time:  May 31 from 10:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
Further Information:  For all ages, no registration required.  Please drop in!
Drop in to the Children’s Room any time between 10 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. for fun and activities to kick off the 2013 Summer Reading Club.  We’ll have craft stations set up throughout the department where kids can create their own posters, make a mummy bookmark, contribute to a cave painting, and much more!  While you’re here, sign up for the Summer Reading Club and check out some great books to read!

Monday Matinee
Date and Time:  Every Monday, June 3-July 22 @ 1:30 p.m.
Location:  The Strassweg Auditorium
Further Information:  Bring the whole family and BYOS (Bring Your Own Snacks)!  No registration required. 
Mother Goose on the Loose
Date and Time:  Every Monday (June 3-July 22) @ 4:00 p.m. & Wednesday (June 4-July 23) @ 10:00 a.m.
Location:  The Applegate Room
Further Information:  *We will not meet July 1st or 2nd.  This program is for children ages 0-23 months with a parent or caregiver.  We’ll share rhymes, songs, stories, and music in this interactive program designed to develop early literacy and social skills in a relaxed, fun atmosphere.  No registration required. 
Drop-In Toddler Time
Date and Time:  Every Tuesday (June 4-July 23) & Wednesday (June 5-July 24) @ 11:00 a.m.  
Location:  The Applegate Room
Further Information:  *We will not meet July 2nd or 3rd.  This program is for ages 2-3 with a caregiver.  We’ll share stories, rhymes, songs, and activities that are just right for toddlers.  No registration required. 
Family Storytime
Date and Time:  Every Monday, June 3-July 22 @ 7:00 p.m.   
Location:  The Applegate Room
Further Information:  *We will not meet July 1st.  Join us on Monday nights at 7:00 p.m. for some super bedtime stories and fun.  Bring your teddy bear or favorite cuddly and dress in your pajamas if you want!  For ages 3-7.  Registration required. 
Program for children entering Kindergarten
Kindergarten, Here We Come!
Date and Time:  Tuesday, July 9 @ 2:00 p.m.   
Location:  The Applegate Room
Further Information:  Join us at this special storytime just for kids starting Kindergarten in the fall.  We’ll share stories celebrating this milestone and practice school readiness skills.  This program is for kids entering Kindergarten in the fall.  Registration is required.
Programs for kids going into K-2nd grade:
Dig Into Fantastical Creatures
Date and Time:  Thursday, June 6-Gnomes; Thursday, June 20-Fairies; Thursday, July 11-Dragons.  All programs will be @ 2:00 p.m.   
Location:  The Applegate Room
Further Information:  Join us for this 3-class series of fantastically fun adventures into the worlds of Gnomes, Fairies, & Dragons!  These programs are sure to delight, while also encouraging a love of imagination and fantasy.  We’ll read a story or two and make a craft, as well as a few other fun activities.  Sign up for one, two, or all three! For kids going into K-2nd grade.  Registration is required.
Dig Into Root Veggies:  Food Under Our Feet
Date and Time:  Tuesday, June 11 @ 2:00 p.m.   
Location:  The Applegate Room
Further Information:  What do radishes, carrots, beets, turnips, and potatoes have in common?  They grow underground!  Come find out about root veggies and how they grow.  Investigate a new vegetable, taste a veggie chip, listen to stories about our favorite root vegetables, stamp a painting with veggie cutouts, and plant a carrot seed in your very own see-through-planter.  You’ll be able to see your roots grow!  For kids going into K-2nd grade.  Registration is required.
Dig Into Dinosaurs
Date and Time:  Tuesday, July 16 @ 2:00 p.m.   
Location:  The Applegate Room
Further Information:  Are you dino-crazy?  Do you want to learn more about the giant lizards that roamed our earth?  Come and listen to dinosaur stories, investigate layers of “bread fossils”, vote for Indiana’s state dinosaur, and find out how big a dinosaur’s footprint really was!  For kids going into K-2nd grade.  Registration is required.
Programs for kids going into 1st-5th grade:
Food Scientists:  Investigating Nutrition
Date and Time:  Thursdays, June 6-July 25 @ 11:00 a.m.   
Location:  The Applegate Room
Further Information:  *We will not meet July 4th.  What do you know about the stuff you eat?  Special guest Ms. Lee Ann from the Purdue Extension Office will offer a different nutrition class each week, perfect for young scientists.  How can you choose healthy food to eat?  Which foods are rich in calcium?  How can you keep your food fresh and safe for your family?  We’ll explore all these topics and more in these classes.  Healthy snacks will be provided.  Please contact the Children’s Department or see our online events calendar to see a full list of topics for each week.  Our events calendar can be found at http://nafclibrary.evanced.info/.   For kids going into K-2nd grade.  Registration is required.

Mad Science: Investigating Caves
Date and Time:  Wednesday, June 5 @ 2:00 p.m.   
Location:  The Applegate Room
Further Information:  Come explore the underground world of caves.  Learn how stalactites and stalagmites form, discover animals that live in caves, and create your own 3D cave picture!  For kids going into 3rd-5th grade.  Registration is required.
Mad Science: Shoebox Excavation
Date and Time:  Wednesday, June 19 @ 2:00 p.m.   
Location:  The Applegate Room
Further Information:  Become a junior archaeologist for a day as we investigate some mysterious shoeboxes full of artifacts and discover how scientists study the remains of the past.  For kids going into 3rd-5th grade.  Registration is required.
Mad Science: Blow Your Top!
Date and Time:  Friday, July 19 @ 11:00 a.m.   
Location:  The Applegate Room   
Further Information:  Learn all about volcanoes in this interactive science program.  We’ll talk about how volcanoes form, check out a seismometer you can make at home, and create our own “exploding” volcanoes (using baking sodea and vinegar).  We’ll definitely have a blast!  For kids going into 3rd-5th grade.  Registration is required.
Programs for All Ages!
Wee Dance!  Party
Date and Time:  Friday, June 7 & Wednesday, July 10 @ 2:00 p.m.   
Location:  The Strassweg Auditorium
Further Information:  Do you like to dance?  Do you like to boogie?  Join us this summer in our rockin’ storytime with stories, songs, and activities that encourage all kinds of movement.  You’ve never had this much fun exercising your body and mind.  This program is for all ages.  No registration required.
Family Concert:  Tom Sieling
Date and Time:  Wednesday, June 12 @ 2:00 p.m.   
Location:  The Strassweg Auditorium
Further Information:  Tom Sieling, widely acclaimed singer and songwriter from Newfield, New York, will perform a free, very participatory family program called, “Howl at the Moon with a Ground-Dweller Tune!”  Tom accompanies himself on guitar, banjo, harmonica, and a drum machine, and all songs include parts for the whole family.  Join us for this musical afternoon!  This program is for all ages.  No registration required.
Lego Club
Date and Time:  Friday, June 14 & Wednesday, July 24 @ 2:00 p.m.

Further Information:  Do you love to build amazing things with Legos?  Join our Lego Club and impress your friends with your awesome Lego building skills!  This program is for all ages.  No registration required.
Mr. Mustache, That Funny Magician
Date and Time:  Wednesday, June 26 @ 2:00 p.m.   
Location:  The Strassweg Auditorium
Further Information:  Join us to welcome back the Mr. Mustache Funny Magic Show!  Mr. Mustache will amaze and delight his audience with magic tricks of all types.  You won’t believe your eyes!  This program is for all ages.  A ticket is required to attend; free tickets will be available at the Children’s Desk 30 minutes before the event.
Make a Pet Rock
Date and Time:  Friday, June 28 @ 11:00 a.m. or 2:00 p.m.   
Location:  The Applegate Room
Further Information:  Want an awesome pet that doesn’t need to be fed, watered, or taken on walks?  Then come to the library and make a pet rock!  Bring your own rock to decorate and we’ll have a variety of art supplies and accessories, including googley eyes!  Give your rock its own special personality!  This program is for all ages.  Registration is required.
Adzooks Puppet Show
Date and Time:  Friday, July 19 @ 2:00 p.m.

Further Information:  This program is for all ages.  A ticket is required to attend; free tickets will be available at the Children’s Desk 30 minutes before the event.
Dr. Seuss Day @ the Library
Date and Time:  Thursday, July 25 from 3:00-7:00 p.m.   
Location:  In the Children’s Department
Further Information:  Drop in to the Children’s Department any time between 3:00 p.m. & 7:00 p.m. for Dr. Seuss crafts, snacks, games, trivia, and more!  The Cat in the Hat wants to say:  “Come for a time of fun, a time of games, a time to play!”  This program is for all ages.  No registration required.
Animal Tales:  Animal Underground
Date and Time:  Friday, July 26 @ 11:00 a.m. or 2:00 p.m.   
Location:  The Strassweg Auditorium
Further Information:  Wind down our fabulous summer with Animal Tales.  What’s hiding out under your feet?  This show will feature live animals from across the globe that either hunt from above or hide out underground.  Expect to get up-close and personal with predators and prey alike.  This program is for all ages.  A ticket is required to attend; free tickets will be available at the Children’s Desk 30 minutes before the event.
