A Madison resident was taken into custody by officers with the Sheriff’s Department after he was allegedly found to be in possession of a stolen vehicle and items taken from vehicles in a Scottsburg subdivision.
Deputies responded to a call about a crash on Blanton Road on the far east side of Scott County on Saturday, April 27.
Arriving, they found Darrin L. Thorne, 24, at the scene. Thorne allegedly showed signs of impairment and was placed under arrest, a preliminary report from the Sheriff’s Department related. During the investigation, deputies also discovered that the 2002 Chevy Avalanche wrecked in a roadside ditch was reported stolen from a residence on Weir Road. Additionally, the Avalanche contained several items reported stolen from other vehicles in Scottsburg and the county.
Charges filed against Thorne in Scott Circuit Court on Thursday, May 2, include three counts of Class B felony burglary, a Class D felony charge of auto theft, three counts of Class D felony theft, a count of criminal mischief, two counts of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and one count of false reporting.
Thorne pleaded not guilty to all charges at his initial court hearing on Thursday, and a jury trial date of October 21 was scheduled.
He is being represented by a public defender. Bail is set at $75,000 corporate surety or full cash.
