At a ceremony held Friday at Salem City Hall, Mayor David Bower was sworn in as a reserve officer for the Salem Police Department.

Bower was officially sworn in after he completed the training back in February and has since been working detail to help the city’s police department.
SPD Chief Troy Merry said Bower has done an excellent job.
“He came to me and his biggest concern was the kids at the schools and their safety,” Merry said. “He said he wanted to help out in any way he can.”
Merry said he is humbled by Bower’s willingness to go above and beyond his job to help out.
“A lot of people will tell you they are concerned but the Mayor put his concern to action,” Merry said.
