Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating an ATV accident that occurred in Clark County this evening. At approximately 4 p.m., Conservation Officers were called to the accident scene on private property located off of Al Wright Road near Borden. The 38 year old victim suffered possible pelvic and leg injuries. He was airlifted to University of Louisville Hospital for treatment.
The victim, Gary Medcalf of Charlestown, was operating his Polaris Sportsman ATV when he lost control and overturned it on a hill. The ATV rolled at least once, striking Medcalf before coming to final rest. His friend, who was riding with him, was able to quickly call for help. Assisting agencies included the Clark County Sheriff’s Department, Rural Metro Ambulance, Air Methods Helicopter, and Borden/Wood Township Fire Department.
Medcalf was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, which likely reduced the severity of his injuries. Indiana Conservation Officers strongly encourage riders to always wear a helmet and necessary safety equipment when operating an ATV.
