One driver was air-lifted by medical helicopter to University of Louisville Hospital after being injured and trapped inside the wreckage of his vehicle in an accident on Monday, January 7.
According to preliminary details released, the unidentified driver was in a vehicle that was "t-boned" at the intersection of Boatman Road and State Road 56 west of Scottsburg around 11:45 a.m. on Monday.
The impact between the two vehicles, one crossing S.R. 56 on Boatman Rd. and the other traveling on the state highway, caused the first vehicle to tip onto the driver's side and then crash top-first into a utility pole.
The pole crunched the top of the vehicle badly, trapping the driver inside as the vehicle lay in a roadside ditch.
Firefighters with the Vienna Volunteer Fire Department, assisted by Scottsburg's department, worked 15 to 20 minutes to free the man as Scott County EMS technicians assisted the victim.
The man was then loaded onto the waiting helicopter and flown to the Louisville hospital for treatment of his injuries. Injuries to the second driver were not reported.
The accident remains under investigation by the Sheriff's Department.
