What can you do to help? Local food banks in need PDF Print E-mail

Employees at Green Banner Publications wanted to do something to help those in need this time of year.

They started a canned food drive every Tuesday.
They also took up a collection and donated $241 to help the Pekin Love Center.
“We knew there was a critical need and wanted to do something,” said Managing Editor George Browning. “If every business, or every person for that matter just did a little, the need wouldn’t be as big.”
Browning issued an unofficial challenge to local businesses and individuals to do something, even if it’s a simple as dropping off a sack of canned goods.
“The Washington County Food Bank in Salem and the Pekin Love Center are helping to meet the needs of the less fortunate in the community and those of us who can should do something to help them,” he said.
Anyone wishing to donate to the Pekin Love Center can drop items off on Wednesday or call Sister Judy Bright at 967-5079.
The number for the Washington County Food Bank is 883-2655.
Publisher Joe Green said those wishing to drop off items at the Green Banner Publications may do so and we will make sure they get to the organizations.
