Information received from the Washington County Auditor’s Office indicates that the Indiana Department of Local Government Finance has informed the county that it must cut $299,387 from its 2008 budget.
A review of the official notice, Form 1782, indicates that the Funds effected by this cut are General Fund, Local Roads and Street Funds, Health Fund, and Park and Recreation Fund.
According to Michelle Fleenor, 1st Deputy Auditor, the individuals charged with overseeing the effected funds were notified by Auditor, Sarah Bachman, last week and the changes are expected to be brought before the County Council for approval either at the September 29 or the October 6 meeting.
Normally, the Form 1782 is received by the county earlier in the year.
Several county officials were expecting bigger cuts than were implemented by the state.  However, this late in the fiscal year will make it more difficult to find ways to cut money out of the budget and comply with state laws.
