Lots of OWIs in
Salem over the
holiday weekend

Jeffery Fleenor, 54, Fredericksburg, was arrested and charged with possession of firearm by serious violent felon, criminal recklessness with a firearm and shooting into inhabitted residence.
According to Washington County Prosecutor Dustin Houchin, Fleenor’s neighbors found a bullet hole and suspected it was fired by Fleenor.

Houchin said officers investigated and determined that the shot’s trajectory made it possible for the shot to have been fired from Fleenor’s house.
That evidence produced a search warrant and once it was executed a number of firearms were found in Fleenor’s house.
“By Indiana’s standards Fleenor is considered a violent offender and because of that is not allowed to possess fire arms,” Houchin said.
Fleenor is still being incarcerated in the Washington County Detention Center. A bond had not been set at press time as his court date was scheduled for Monday.

Seven OWI arrests
The Indiana State Police issued a release last week stating that there is a misconception that the busiest holiday for operating while intoxicated is New Year’s Eve.
The report said that actually Thanksgiving weekend produces more OWI arrests.
Houchin said the statistics locally backup that information.
“Typically Thanksgiving and Christmas see many more OWIs than New Year’s Eve in our area,” he said.
Over the Thanksgiving weekend this year, the Salem Police Department made seven OWI arrests and another that involved alcohol.
Houchin and other law enforcement agencies urge Hoosier drivers to drink responsibly over the holiday season.
