Lady Highlanders beat Scottsburg
It took overtime to do it, but the Floyd Central girls’ basketball team opened the season last Thursday with a win over visiting Scottsburg, 75-73.
Niki Bruno scored two of her 21 points in the final seconds of over time to lift her team to the win on Nov. 15.
The game didn’t start so close as FC built a 23-10 lead at the end of the first quarter thanks to six points each from Riley Kaiser and Tori Kingsley.
Donna Cheatham’s Scottsburg team responded in the second eight minutes when they help Floyd to just six points int he second eight minutes.
While the Scottsburg D was tightening, the offense was also coming alive.
Katie Wampler scored seven of her 18 points, helping her team pull to within two, 29-27 at intermission.
The second half went back and forth with neither team establishing a clear advantage until Bruno’s shot sealed the win.
Bruno was joined by three other players in double figures. Madison Kaiser scored 14, Riley Kaiser had 13 and Tori Kingsley added 13.
Four other Lady Highlanders scored in the game.
Ashley Elliott scored 20 to lead Scottsburg, Kelsey Smith had 17 and Cara Burlington added 13.
Floyd Central hosted Seymour on Nov. 20, results were not available at press time.
Their next game will be Nov. 27 at Madison.
Scottsburg played Austin on Nov. 20 and will take on Corydon Central on Nov. 27.
