Miles for Merry Miracles is a youth-driven, non-profit organization based out of Southern Indiana. We partner with the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree Program to provide a Christmas to children in need. Miles for Merry Miracles got its start as an Eagle Scout Project organized by Nick Hebert in 2008. Nick was so motivated by the service he provided that he decided to do it again the following year. Nick is currently serving as a missionary for the LDS church in Honduras, but his dream has just begun to be realized. To date, M4MM has helped over 1050 children in the local area. Now in our fifth year, our goal for 2012 is to help an additional 500 Angels.
M4MM is proud to be a youth-led organization. Our Youth Board members are consisted of high school and middle school students throughout the New Albany-Floyd County School Corporation, West Clark School Corporation and Greater Clark School Corporation. These young men and women participate in every aspect of M4MM, from the Board meetings, to fundraising, and interviews with the local media. With the help of adult mentors, the youth board defines the goals of M4MM and develops a plan to make a positive change on society. The Youth Board of M4MM organizes a 5K Run/Walk where all proceeds go directly into ensuring our Angels have gifts this Christmas. To wrap up the M4MM season, we invite our Angel Tree families to a Christmas dinner.
M4MM is proud to announce that registration for the 2012 Miles for Merry Miracles 5K Fun Run/Walk has opened. Entry fee for this event is the participant’s pledge to sponsor an Angel through it’s organization. The event will be held at 10:00 AM December 1st at the New Albany Amphitheatre. All interested participants may register at This event is the first of what we call the “Triple Crown of Service.” The Fun Run/Walk will have prizes, games, and a several contests including the traditional Ugly Sweater Contest. Our goal this year is to reach over 400 runners. With more runners, more children will get to enjoy a great Christmas. We encourage press and media to come or participate in the event.
The next event in the M4MM season is the area’s largest Angel Tree Shopping Spree on December 8th at Wal-Mart on Grant Line Road. M4MM has partnered with Wal-Mart in order to better serve our Angels and Runners. M4MM participants can come enjoy special deals, activities, prizes, present drop-off, and dedicated shopping lanes. We encourage press and media to come or participate in the event.
The final event will be our Christmas dinner for our Angel Tree families. Due to the nature of the event, we ask that press and media not attend.
Miles for Merry Miracles would not be in the place it is today without the help of the press, media, and word of mouth. We appreciate all that you have done for us in the past. Unfortunately, the success of M4MM is overshadowed by continuing need of Angels who could not be served. Our goal of 500 Angels has been decided upon due to the nature of the economy. Now more than ever, families are in dire need of organizations such as ours. We are asking the media to help with getting message of Miles for Merry Miracles out to the public and as often as possible. This will be the first of two press releases, the second coming as the race gets closer.
