Council candidate facing charges PDF Print E-mail

Eric D. Worley of Campbellsburg, who is a candidate for County Council Member -- at large, was arrested early Sunday morning following an accident at Delaney Park.

Worley who is a member of the park’s board and also on the Washington County Tourism Bureau board, is facing charges of OWI refusal, OWI controlled substance, possession of schedule 4 controlled substance, possession of marijuana under 30 grams and possession of marijuana with intent to sell.
According to Washington County Sheriff’s Deputy Jim Strange said he was called to work an accident.
“He (Worley) told me there was something wrong with his brakes and went across the road, struck a phone box and got stuck on the guard rail,” Strange said.
Strange said Worley had a contusion on his forehead and he encouraged him to get medical treatment.
“He refused medical treatment at the scene,” Strange said. “His wife arrived on the scene and I spoke to her about the fact that he did have a contusion on his forehead.
“I asked her to run him up to the hospital and I followed him up there a short time later.”
Strange said at the hospital he became suspicious and asked Worley if he’d be willing to take a drug screen.
Strange said Worley declined, forcing him to obtain a search warrant to obtain a sample of his blood.
Worley was treated and released and that point he was arrested and transported to the Washington County Detention Center.
Strange said the marijuana charges came after items were found in Worley’s vehicle.
“His vehicle was towed to the sheriff’s department and I got a search warrant for that and found some marijuana and a number of different things like scales and baggies -- indicators that he was dealing in marijuana.”
Strange said it is his understanding that Worley had been stating at Delaney over the weekend.
“I haven’t confirmed that, but both Worley and the park manager told me that he had been there that weekend,” Strange said.
At press time Worley was still being held in the Washington County Detention Center.
No bond had been set.
