The season ended for the Eastern High School boys’ tennis team last week.
The Musketeers started the week off with a 3-2 win over Salem, but then lost Wednesday, Sept. 26 in the first round of sectionals to the Highlanders of Floyd Central, 5-0.
Against Salem, Eastern’s three wins all came in singles play.
In number one singles, Grant Newcomb won 6-2, 6-3 over Caleb Couch.
Alex Doebler defeated Lyndon Yoder 7-5, 7-5, in number two singles.
At number three singles, Eastern’s Clayton Marshall beat Keenan Bowles, 4-6, 6-2, 6-1.
Salem won both matches in doubles play.
At number one doubles, the Lions’ team of Christian Gleason and Eli Voyles won 6-3, 7-6(5).
Salem’s number two doubles team of Derek Sinex and Jordan Baker won over Trace Myers and Jordan Baker, 6-3, 6-1.
Eastern’s record to finish the season was 4-10 and they were 2-7 in Mid Southern Conference play.
Salem defeated Crawford County before falling 4-1 in the sectional championship to the host Floyd Central Highlanders.

EHS volleyball team wins two
The Eastern High School volleyball team recently picked up two Mid Southern Conference wins.
The Lady Musketeers beat Salem 25-14, 20-25, 25-22, 25-23, on Sept. 25 and then followed that up with a 25-16, 25-22 and 25-17 win over Austin the next night.
Krista Roberts led Eastern’s offense against Salem with 19 kills and 17 aces. 
Kayla Beach added six kills and two aces. 
Whitney Sacksteder, who is Eastern’s setter, snuck in six kills of her own with excellent placement of the volleyball.
Against Austin, Roberts had 18 kills and seven aces, while Beach put down 12 kills and landed four aces.
Eastern is now 5-3 in MSC play and they will close out conference play on Oct. 8 against North Harrison.
