FC falls to Columbus East PDF Print E-mail

The Floyd Central Highlanders fell at home to the Columbus East Olympians, 31-7.
The first points of the game didn’t happen until 6 minutes into the first quarter. After going back and forth, Columbus East finally made it in for a touchdown. After the punt, the score was 7-0. After a few more scoreless runs, the first quarter ended on more of a whimper.

The second quarter went much the same way. Both teams seemed evenly matched, with one team’s defense holding off the others offense. However, the Olympians managed to get through again and score with 2:52 left in the half. On the last play of the half, the Olympians almost scored again, but were stopped just short of the goal line by the Highlanders. The score at the end of the half was Columbus East – 14, Floyd Central – 0.
The second half didn’t pick up much for the Highlanders. On the first possession, Columbus East put up another seven points on the scoreboard with 8:04 on the clock. Almost two minutes later they made a field goal, and put another touchdown before the end of the third quarter, bringing the score to 31-0.
Floyd Central’s defense picked up in the fourth quarter, not allowing for a single point from Columbus East. The Highlanders finally put up their only points of the game, with 2:38 left in play. Garry Posey carried the ball 15 yards for the score. However the clock ran out before the highlanders had a chance to score again, leaving the score Columbus East – 31, Floyd Central – 7.
