The Eastern High School boys cross country team ran their best race of the season at the Paoli Invitational on Thursday, September 20. The team finished in second out of 12 teams, losing to Northeast DuBois by 11 points.
The top Musketeer runner was Khalil McDaniel, who finished second overall with a time of 18:43.
Other medal winners for Eastern were Dakota Jackson (11th) and Reid Prindle (19th). Other top finishers Cody Shepherd and Dalton Jackson.
“I was really pleased with our finish at Paoli. The guys have been working really hard in practice and its starting to pay off right when we want it to,” Coach Mark Olesh said. “Hopefully this will continue in our invitational and then with conference and sectional.”
On September 15, the boys ran at Crawford County. The team finished in 13th out of 24 teams. Khalil McDaniel finished in second in the sophomore race with a time of 17:20.
The top Eastern finisher in the junior race was Reid Prindle, who finished in 16th. Eastern has no senior runners.
The Eastern High School tennis team recently lost a pair of matches.
The Musketeers lost 5-1 to Borden on September 18, then lost 5-0 to Silver Creek the next day.
Eastern’s only win against the Braves came at number two singles where Alex Doebler defeated Jared Sanders, 6-2, 6-4.
In number one singles, Borden’s Josh Vollstedt beat Grant Newcomb 3-6, 6-2. 6-2.
The Braves’ Casey Hayden defeated Eastern’s Clayton Marshall 6-2. 6-4 in number three singles.
In number doubles, the Musketeers’ team of Jordan Gray and Terry Chism lost 6-2, 6-3 to Cody Craddock and Dylan Scott.
Borden’s number two doubles team of Kamden Hurst and Elijah Franklin beat Nick Hobson and Trace Myers, 6-4, 6-2.
Eastern’s Matt Quillen lost a junior varsity match against Tony Wagoner 8-0.
The closest match for the Musketeers against Silver Creek came in number one doubles where Gray and Chism lost the first set 6-4, but forced a tie-breaker in the second before losing 7-6.
Hobson and Myers also lost two JV double matches for the Musketeers against the Dragons.
EHS volleyball splits
The Eastern High School volleyball team recently split a pair of matches. On Sept. 17, they lost a five set match to Borden, 25-13, 25-19, 24-26, 20-25, 9-15, then regrouped to beat Medora in four, 25-17, 25-17, 22-25, 25-13.
Against Borden, Krista Roberts led the way for the Lady Musketeers with 23 kills and Kayla Beach had 11/
Laken Heavner led Eastern in serving with eight aces.
Against Medora Beach and Roberts had six aces each. Roberts put down 25 kills and Beach slammed 16.
