|Charlestown rolls to 5-0... Pirates take Homecoming win over Silver Creek|
The Dragons of Silver Creek traveled down State Road 403 last Friday night for the short trip to Dutch Reis Field. Silver Creek was coming off their first win in 70 years, as Charlestown was playing to stay undefeated. The Pirates stayed unbeaten at they took the “Battle of 403” with the 70-13 win.
Silver Creek took the first possession of the ballgame as they went three and out. The Pirates turned the ball over on downs at the Dragons' four yard line on their first possession.
The Dragons again punted the ball on their next possession before Charlestown would find the scoreboard. The Pirates scored on five of their next six possessions. Charlestown recorded touchdowns from senior wide receiver Cody Donahue on a 10 yard pass from senior quarterback Aaron Daniel, a one yard and 15 yard touchdown run by Daniel and an eight yard and 14 yard touchdown run from senior running back Seth McCutchen,
The flurry of touchdowns put the host Pirates up 35-0 with 5:54 left in the first half.
Silver Creek would find the scoreboard late in the second stanza as junior quarterback Brooks Howell hooked up with freshman Austin Hasting for a 28 yard touchdown pass. The extra point attempt was no good as Charlestown held the 35-6 lead with 2:40 remaining in the second stanza.
The Pirates would find the endzone two more times before the halftime break. Daniel once again hooked up with Donahue for a 10 yard touchdown pass with 55 seconds in the half.
Silver Creek would get picked off during their next possession leading to the final score of the first half. Daniel threw his third touchdown pass of the half as he hit senior wide receiver Tyler Odle for the six yard catch and run.
Charlestown went into the halftime break with the 49-6 advantage.
Scoring slowed in the third quarter as only one touchdown was recorded in the 12 minute stanza. McCutchen scampered 14 yards to pay dirt. Daniel tacked on the extra point for the 56-6 Pirate advantage.
Early in the fourth quarter the Pirates enjoyed a touchdown from senior Ryan Wilkerson from three yards out. Daniel's extra point was good as Charlestown held the 63-6 advantage at the 10:36 mark.
The Dragons would add their final touchdown on the night as senior running back Layne Taylor found the endzone from seven yards out before junior wide receiver Drew Sherrow split the uprights for the the Pirates 63-13 lead.
Charlestown's Odle would finish out the scoring in the ballgame as he took the kick off 80 yards to the endzone. Daniel added the extra point for the 70-13 Charlestown win.
The Pirates are 5-0 overall and 4-0 in the Mid Southern Conference.
Silver Creek fell to 1-4 overall and 1-3 in the Mid Southern Conference.
Charlestown was led by Seth McCutchen with 192 yards on 14 carries and three touchdowns followed by Aaron Daniel with 100 yards on 10 carries and two touchdowns. Wilkerson added 25 yards on two carries and one touchdown.
Silver Creek was led by Layne Taylor with 16 yards on 13 carries and one touchdown.
Charlestown's Daniel was 11-for-16 passing for 151 yards and three touchdowns.
Silver Creek's Howell was 13-for-26 for 184 yards and one touchdown.
Silver Creek's Sherrow recorded 129 yards on eight catches while Hasting recorded a 28 yard touchdown.
Charlestown's Odle recorded 56 yards on four catches and one touchdown followed by Donahue who tallied 51 yards on four catches and two touchdowns.
The Pirates tallied 325 rushing yards and 151 passing yards for 476 total yards in the ball game.
Silver Creek tallied 184 passing yards. The Dragons recorded 164 total yards.
During halftime the Pirate faithful enjoyed halftime festivities. Emilee Wood was crowned the 2012 Charlestown High School Football Homecoming Queen while Aaron Daniel was crowned King. Wood is the daughter of Jeff and Debbie Wood. She is active in Student Council and Yearbook. Daniel is the son of David and Kim Daniel. He is active in Football, Basketball, National Honor Society, PE Peer Tutor and Student Council.
The Pirates will travel to Mid Southern Conference rival Salem Friday night for a 7 p.m. kick off.
The Dragons will host the Generals of Clarksville for a 7 p.m. Homecoming kick off.
