The Floyd Central Highlanders fell at home to the Jeffersonville Red Devils, 63 – 15.
The first quarter did not go well for the Highlanders. Despite all of their efforts to score, Jeffersonville held them down to nothing and managed to put up three touchdowns in the process, making the score at the end of the quarter 21-0.
The second quarter was not much better for Floyd Central. Although they still didn’t score, they managed to beef up their defenses some. The Red Devils went scoreless for more than eight minutes until their fast players managed to get through for a touchdown with 3:41 left in the half. It was only in the last minute the Jeffersonville snuck through again and made the score 35-0 going into the half.
Just over two minutes into the second half, the Red Devils managed to score again. After a few plays and being sacked, the Highlanders eventually found themselves fourth and 11 with the ball on Jeffersonville’s 35 yard line. They decide to go for it and Bryce Smith passes the ball to Collin Engle who runs it for 29 yards to set up Floyd Central for their first score of the game. After a few small plays on the goal line, Gabriel Kennedy runs the ball in for a touchdown. The kick is missed however and the score is 42-6.
However Jeffersonville answered right away with points of their own. They return the ball to their own 39 yard line, but on their first play, they manage to sneak past the Highlanders defense and bring the score to 49-6 with 3:47 left in the third quarter.
The Highlanders started the fourth quarter off with a field goal by Ryan Lenz from the 12 yard line. On the Red Devils next possession, Victor Aemmer intercepts the pass and gets all the way to the one yard line. The highlanders get the ball in to bring the score 15-49 with 9:07 left in the game. An attempted two point conversion is no good, though.
The Red Devils return the favor, scoring on their next drive, then intercepting the ball. After the Highlanders put up a fight, Jeffersonville gets the ball into the end zone bringing the score 63-15 with2:34 left on the clock. After a fumble, Jeffersonville recovers the ball and runs out the clock to win the game.
