Thanks to a tip by the Salem High School staff, police officers located the alleged vehicle involved in a hit and run accident in the vicinity of Houston Street early Friday morning.

The victim, a SHS student, was walking to school around 7 a.m. when he was allegedly struck by a ford pickup truck.
He was taken by air ambulance to Kosair Children’s Hospital where he remains in intensive care, according to a police report issued by the Salem Police Department.
After locating the suspected vehicle, a 16-year-old student was question and incarcerated.
He has been initially charged with leaving the scene of an accident and criminal recklessness with a motor vehicle.
The juvenile was transferred to a juvenile detention facility pending an initial court hearing on Sept. 18 in Washington Circuit Court.
Washington County Prosecutor Dustin Houchin said Monday morning he isn’t sure of what the exact charges will be, but he did say the juvenile will not be charged as an adult.
