The Scott County School District 2 Board of Trustees took another bold step on Tuesday, August 28, 2012 in their public meeting when they agreed to start an online, virtual school option for students of Scott and surrounding counties.
After a presentation by Scottsburg High School Principal Ric Manns and a question and answer period, the board voted unanimously to begin this opportunity immediately for the students.
“We are excited about offering another opportunity for the youth of Scott County,” stated Mr. Manns.
The SHS Virtual Academy will be online/virtual option for the youth and young adults of Scott County who for religious, health, or other reasons are not able to attend school in the more traditional day.
Also, this opportunity would be a good option for students who are in the 18+ category but need some credits to complete their high school diploma.
“We really believe that this virtual academy will be good because it will allow students who have not yet earned a diploma for whatever reason a chance to do that while working at their own pace and with flexible hours.  Our virtual school, because it is online, is actually open 24 hours a day 7 days a week,” Manns added.
If you have internet access at your home, you can begin immediately after you get registered and signed up for classes.  For those students who need a place to work on their classes and have access to the internet, SCSD2 will offer an off campus site starting on Wednesday, September 12 by the Meyer Gym Lobby on South Third Street.
Starting on September 12, the SHS Virtual Academy’s physical classroom will be open four days a week:  Monday and Wednesdays from 2 p.m. - 8 p.m. and on Tuesday and Thursdays from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
