Plans to eliminate the vice principal’s position at Austin High School will not be implemented in 2012-2013, thanks to a 4-0 vote by the Scott School District 1 board of trustees.
AHS Vice Principal Wayne Carter had been told his job would be eliminated this school year. The board voted at a special meeting on July 23 to retain both the position and Carter for the coming school year. Superintendent Berley Goodin had recommended to the board that the job be combined with other duties into a new dean of students position.
Trustees also voted on July 23 to give middle school principal David Deaton a three-year contract, an action that had died for lack of a second at the board’s regular business meeting on July 16. Other staff changes for 2012-13 include:
•AHS counselor Dennis Barrett transferring to the middle school counselor position.
•Elementary teacher Stacey Teipen transferring from fifth grade to first grade.
•New boys’ basketball coach Joe Sibbitt is assigned to a social studies position at Austin Middle School.
•Nicole Kilburn, an elementary social worker, transferring to a middle school/high school position.
Other recent action by the board included approving the retirements of teachers/staff members Carol Deaton, Dan Deaton, Shirley Deaton and David Gray as well as the resignations of Heidi Kimmick and Sarah White Smith.
Supt. Goodin said none of those personnel will be replaced.
