Floyd Memorial has been awarded three WHAS-11 Crusade for Children grants, with funds totaling $24,418. The grants will provide funding to purchase items and services aimed at ensuring that the hospital is able to meet the unique medical and psychological needs of children being treated at the facility, which treats approximately 9,000 children per year. Each grant is outlined below.
$3,632 was awarded to the Emergency Department for the purchase of a variety of pediatric trauma equipment. $3,090 toward the purchase of a Pantax video laryngoscope and pediatric blades for rapid intubation of a child in a pediatric emergency. $248 toward the purchase of two pediatric thermometer ear extension modules for rapid, non-invasive, accurate monitoring of children. $294 toward the purchase of five Wee Sight Infant Vein Illuminators for the accurate location of veins in special needs children.
$12,420 was awarded for the purchase of a SimBaby advanced. These simulators, operated by a sophisticated software system, are intended to save lives by equipping hospital staff including, nurses, physicians and paramedics with the experience and tools they need to assess and manage a pediatric medical crisis.
$8,366 was awarded to the Surgical Department to purchase two items. $3,454 toward the purchase of a Stryker Cub Specialized Pediatric Crib with safety features which will be used to ensure the safety of special needs children before and after surgery. $4,912 toward the purchase of a GlideScope system for pediatric intubation.
