On Thursday, July 12, at approximately 4:30 PM, on U.S. Highway 31 just North of Hamburg Pike in Clark County, a serious injury vehicle crash occurred.
It involved a white 2005 Freightliner semi-tractor and flat bed trailer loaded with a Ford passenger van, driven by Scott A. Bell, 53, of Bedford, IN, and a red 1988 Chevrolet S-10 Pickup truck driven by Jerry Cullins, 45, of Borden, IN.
The preliminary investigation reveals the red Chevrolet pickup truck being driven by Jerry Cullins was travelling North on U.S. Highway 31 when it crossed the center line and struck head on the 2005 Freightliner tractor and trailer travelling South. The driver of the semi-tractor and trailer was not injured but the driver of the Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck was transported by air ambulance to University Hospital in Louisville, KY with life threatening injuries.
The Indiana State Police Crash Reconstruction Team is assisting in the investigation along with Indiana State Police Motor Carrier Officers.
Both drivers in the crash were wearing their seat belts. There were no other passengers in the vehicles.
U.S. Highway 31 was closed at the crash scene since the crash and is expected to be closed for at least another two hours. The Sellersburg Town Police Department assisted at the crash scene.
